“What is golf…?”
Golf is an ancient, enjoyable and thoroughly frustrating game played with a club and a ball outdoors. It is usually played for relaxation and recreation. Most golfers will appreciate learning new techniques to enhance their play.
“How to Play…”
Golf play starts with hitting a small ball off the tee onto the fairway. One attempts to hit the ball onto the green and then into the cup or hole. Some courses are 9 holes, some are 18. Some courses are designed to be walked and some are more easily played when one uses a golf cart. [free-reg]
“Stroke Play…”
The point of the game is to place the ball in the hole with the least amount of strokes. The person who plays the 18 holes with the least amount of strokes wins the game. Golf has many rules of play that must be observed during play and learning these first is a good idea. Furthermore, a general knowledge of golf etiquette is necessary.
“Where It All Started…”
Golf started in Scotland. Records show the fist golf game was played in the 1400’s. Two names associated with the first golf games are “Kolven” and “Chole. By the 1800’s, it spread all over the world. It has become well known and used in many schools, organizations, and clubs all over the country as a great sporting event. Anyone can play this game and have fun learning and trying at the same time.
“Wide Appeal…”
Many people are getting interested in the game now. It’s a great game that is fun and relaxing to play. When you play golf, the rest of the world seems to disappear. Anyone can play, no matter what type of golf you play.
“New Generations…”
Young people are getting in on the game too. They can play when in school or out of school. Schools are now including golf as a sport the kids can take up. Kids usually start golf habits in high school and continue them throughout their lives. Golf can be slow sometimes for a teenager, however, if they stick with it, it can be rewarding.
“Business Networking…”
Executives play golf too. Many times they use the time out of the office on the greens to make business contacts or make deals. Sometimes busy executives use time on the golf course to serve double duty, recreation and communication with business associates. Some executives even conduct business exclusively on the course.
“Remember, Have Fun…!”
Golf is a game for everyone. Young, old, and in between. It can be enjoyed with family, friends, or business associates. Buying accessories can be a fun hobby too.
