“Golf Match Play Tips…”
As the title would suggest, golf match play is one of games that people play on golf courses. With every hole played points are awarded to the players who usually take part on a one to one basis or in teams of two people.
“Points, How to Calculate…”
The points are calculated from one hole to the next so its a straight forward scoring process. If a tie is declared on one particular hole then no points are awarded and if the match is tied up, its known as all square.
As for the final score of a golf game, you will often see a score like 4 and 3. In these cases, it means that the game ended early because one player led by four holes with only three holes left to play and, therefore, there was no way that the other player could catch up.
“Give Consideration…”
There are numerous things to be given consideration with match play and these are included in golf basics. For instance, your opponent can request that you play a shot again if you play out of turn during the game. This is because the rules of the game have been violated when you do this.
Also, if you happen to play a shot from outside of the tee box, the same thing can happen. In stroke play, this would be a 2 shot penalty, so playing match play does have its advantages when these issues arise. Breaching a rule is very detrimental and in stroke play, it usually calls for a 2 shot penalty.
In match play, however, it will only call for that individual to lose that hole, which gives the player plenty of other chances to make up for this.Another way that match play is different than stroke play is in regards to late comers.
“Late Comers Can Play…”
Late comers are not tolerated in stroke play and if you do not turn up on time you would forfeit the tournament. In match play though, you can start your game anytime up to the second tee.
The strategy of match play golf is quite different to stroke play. For example, if the person you are playing against makes a bad tee-shot, you are afforded the luxury of playing a little more conservatively and taking advantage of the state of play.
“Excitement…”
For golfers learning the game, golf match play can be extremely exciting. Its competitive and reactions of either aggression or passivity are usually displayed depending on the behavior of the person you are playing against.
Remember folks, don’t take your golf match play too seriously and enjoy a sunny day on the golf links!
