Women’s Golf History

“You Will Look Like A Pro With

These Hot Golf Tips…”

In this lesson you will learn a smidgen about the history of Women’s golf.

“Women’s golf history…”

The first recorded female tournament was a minor one, as it was contented by two women in 1811. Women’s golf history shows that the sport finally reached a mainstream level in the 1930s, as this was when a number of tournaments took place. The first women’s golf tour was started in 1944 as a means of increasing the exposure of the game.

“LPGA…”

The LPGA is the top female golf tour in the world and has been ever since it was started in 1950. This tour is where every professional female golfer wants to end up because there is a lot of money to be made by players who win tournaments.

“Four  Major LPGA Tournaments…”

There are four major tournaments on the LPGA tour and countless smaller tournaments. The major tournaments are the Kraft Nabisco Tournament, the LPGA Championship, The U.S. Women’s Open, and the British Women’s Open. Other important tournaments also have significant prize money, as top female golfers now make a very good living on the Tour.

“Kraft Nabisco…”

Throughout golf history, the Kraft Nabisco Championship was called the Dinah Shore Tournament, since it was founded by Dinah Shore in 1972. The LPGA Championship might be the most important tournament on the yearly schedule, as it is an extremely prestigious tournament. Once again, only the top players in the sport win this tournament and some of the biggest names in golf history have been victorious. This popularity of this tournament has also helped the women’s game to grow considerably, as this is a tournament that gets national notoriety every year.

“U.S. Open…”

The U.S Open might be the least prestigious major tournament, as absolutely any female can qualify to play in it. Therefore, it is not always professional players who are involved in this tournament, as there have been countless cases where amateur players have qualified. Getting into the British Open calls for a player to either finish in the top 15 of last year’s tournament, finish in the top 35 of the last year’s European Women’s tour money list, or finish in the top 75 of the LPGA money list. In the future, we will see even better female players and more big money tournaments, as this great sport continues to expand.
